As we enter the autumn season, a time when many infections tend to flourish, it is important to remind our children about good hygiene habits to help prevent the spread. In a community as ours, 1 in 3 of all gastrointestinal infections (vomiting, diarrhoea,…) and 1 in 5 of respiratory infections (common cold, flu,…) can be avoided by regular and correct handwashing with water and soap.
Here are some key measures to focus on:
- Frequent handwashing: Encourage your child to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, especially after coughing, sneezing, or playing outside. Please supervise and remind them of the correct order of handlings.
- Covering coughs and sneezes: Remind children to always use a tissue or the inside of their elbow to cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze.
- Avoid face touching: Help your child understand the importance of not touching their eyes, nose, or mouth, as this can easily introduce germs into their body.
- Stay home if unwell: If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home to rest and prevent the spread of illness.
- Clean common surfaces: Regularly clean surfaces like door handles, light switches, and toys at home to minimise the risk of spreading germs.
With these simple precautions, we can help ensure a healthier school community as we navigate through the season. Thank you for your cooperation and care.
