Preventing the spread of infections

As we enter the autumn season, a time when many infections tend to flourish, it is important to remind our children about good hygiene habits to help prevent the spread. In a community as ours, 1 in 3 of all gastrointestinal infections (vomiting, diarrhoea,…) and 1 in 5 of respiratory infections (common cold, flu,…) can be avoided by regular and correct handwashing with water and soap.

Here are some key measures to focus on:

  1. Frequent handwashing: Encourage your child to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, especially after coughing, sneezing, or playing outside. Please supervise and remind them of the correct order of handlings.

  1. Covering coughs and sneezes: Remind children to always use a tissue or the inside of their elbow to cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze.

  1. Avoid face touching: Help your child understand the importance of not touching their eyes, nose, or mouth, as this can easily introduce germs into their body.

  1. Stay home if unwell: If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home to rest and prevent the spread of illness.

  1. Clean common surfaces: Regularly clean surfaces like door handles, light switches, and toys at home to minimise the risk of spreading germs.

With these simple precautions, we can help ensure a healthier school community as we navigate through the season. Thank you for your cooperation and care.
