ISL has officially launched the first phase of its dual language programme with the introduction of two dual language classes, one in Year 4 and one in Year 5. The Year 4 and Year 5 dual language classes will follow our existing PYP programme in both French and English. The classes will be taught by Andrew Dailly in Year 4 and Lisa Marlow in Year 5. Benjamin Cornet will act as the francophone homeroom teacher, dedicating 50% of his time to each class.
I really like to make learning fun. I try to put energy into the lessons and make the classroom a place where the students feel safe to take risks and make mistakes.
J'aime vraiment rendre l'apprentissage amusant.
I have asked the best people to answer this question - some students! They said: funny, hardworking and fair.
The children come into class at 08:30 and prepare for the day ahead. We start with a Morning meeting for around 20 minutes and this sets the tone for the day. On a normal day we will have language lessons focussing on reading or writing as well as a mathematics lesson. There is also time for a unit of inquiry lesson, our first unit this year being on animal adaptation. It’s not all work though, and there is plenty of time for play and strengthening our social skills as there are 2 recess breaks as well as an hour for lunch. A few times a week, children will go to specialist classes for PE, music, library as well as well-being classes, really providing them with a holistic education.
I have learned how flexible the children are and how quickly they adapt to new situations. In the short time that we have been back at school, it has been great to see the children grow in confidence in speaking a different language in the classroom.
